Microsoft 365 is a collective work environment that provides versatile tools as a cloud service. You can use M365 service independently or by utilizing several tools in teaching and studying. Some of the tools are also available as a desktop apps.
How to login to M365
Log in to Microsoft 365 portal with HAMK credentials. Lon in with HAMK credentials:
- Staff: username@hamk.fi
- Students: username@student.hamk.fi
The Microsoft 365 start page opens after you sign in. You can find the apps in the “Apps” menu at the bottom left. You can also find the app list on any M365 page that displays the waffle menu shown in the image at the top left.

Bookings
Others can book one-on-one meetings with you through your personal booking page on Bookings. A separate guideline is available for using your personal booking page.
Forms
With Forms, you can quickly and easily create surveys, quizzes, feedback forms, and quick polls. You can share a survey with others so they can edit it. You can share the response link in several ways, such as via a QR code. Responses are automatically collected in one place and can be viewed in both Forms and Excel.

Loop
Loop is a digital workspace and collaboration platform where you can create, share, and edit content in real time, either on your own or with others. See the separate guideline for instructions on how to use Loop.
OneNote
OneNote is a digital notebook where you can collect notes, images, links, and audio recordings all in one place. As a teacher, you can use it for course notes, student portfolios, or sharing materials with the class.

Outlook
Outlook lets you send and receive e-mail, and manage your calendar, contacts, and tasks in one place.
It’s more than just an email client. It helps you organize communication and schedules.

Planner
Planner is an easy-to-use, visual tool for managing tasks and projects. With it, you can create tasks, assign them to team members, track progress, and use different views (such as table, timeline, and chart views). Planner is suitable for both lesson planning and coordinating team work.

Sway
Sway is a browser-based tool for creating presentations, publications, and educational content without complicated layout work. It lets you create visual stories that automatically adapt to different devices. Sway is ideal for course introductions, student projects, and visual reports, for example.

Teams
Teams is a platform designed for teamwork that conveniently brings together the features of Microsoft 365. See the separate guideline for instructions.
Whiteboard
Whiteboard is a digital collaborative whiteboard where you can sketch and organize ideas in real time. It works for both in-person and remote learning, and students can participate in collaborative work from their own devices. Whiteboard is suitable for group work, brainstorming, and planning, among other things.

M365 Mobile apps
Most apps also work on mobile devices. Some of them have a separate mobile app available.
M365 Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Most Microsoft Office tools are available both as online versions in a web browser and as desktop applications (HAMK staff).

Data protection of M365 services
A lot of information about the data protection of M365 services can be found in Microsoft’s page M365 – Trust Center.
Microsoft tells that the data centres of M365 cloud services for Europeans are located in Ireland and in the Netherlands (see Where is my data?). The details and email addresses needed in user authentication are stored in US data centres. Malware screenings for email can also be carried out in the US data centres (for load balancing).
