Various quality criteria
There are many quality criteria to support the planning, implementation and development of learning, which have been developed for different implementations and offerings. Before selecting the quality criteria, familiarise yourself with ARENE’s recommendations on the application of quality criteria and quality assurance in the joint study offerings of universities of applied sciences.
The quality criteria for online implementations have been created as part of the eAMK project to ensure the quality of CampusOnline.fi online studies. These criteria are also the basis for the quality of module implementations of HAMK. The quality criteria consist of 11 themes and related characteristics of quality implementation. The criteria describe how these characteristics appear during design and implementation. The quality criteria can be utilized in many ways, e.g., in the planning and developing implementation and collecting student feedback.
As part of the Digivisio 2030 programme, higher education institutions have prepared quality criteria for online learning to support the production of high-quality educational content for the continuous and flexible learning tray, Opin.fi. The criteria have five themes: research-based, diversity, modularity, accessibility and availability.
The HAMK Learn Clear quality criteria were created during an audit carried out during the academic year 23-24. The criteria were based on the quality criteria for online learning that is already used, HAMK´s accessibility guidelines, and the templates built for the learning platform.
The HyFlex quality criteria have been developed to support flexible teaching and learning. With the HyFlex or Hybrid Flexible implementation, students can participate in teaching in person, remotely simultaneously or remotely at different times, depending on their own choice. The criteria include modified criteria for online implementation created in the eAMK project.
In particular, the quality criteria for open education applied in open education and learning are intended to help authors of open educational resources and teaching. The guidelines define five criteria for open educational resources: content, learning and teaching methods, usability and accessibility, findability and sharing, lifecycle and adaptability.
How to use quality criteria in the planning and development of modules?
- During the implementation planning as a checklist, where essential issues are discussed and implemented in practice.
- Evaluation of the previous implementation or just after the implementation. Based on this, you can pick out development targets for the next one.
- Come and get ideas and good practices from the quality module implementation workshop, where quality criteria are used as a tool for self and peer review. From the workshop, you can pick up new development ideas for your own implementation.
