Screen capture
Screen capture video can be used to record your computer screen, audio and video. The following tools are available at HAMK for this purpose:
- ScreenPal (previously ScreenCast-O-Matic)
- PPT recording
- Kaltura
- OBS
For more information on screen capture and the different functions of capture tools, see the digipedagogical guideline Here’s how to make a screen capture video.
Lightboard recording
The teacher can use Lightboard as a transparent whiteboard. The video shows the teacher against a dark background, with her facial expressions and gestures, and the content written or drawn on the glass chalkboard. The teacher’s speech is also recorded. You can watch the first Lightboard video (in Finnish) by Pirjo Seddiki, Senior Lecturer in Design.
Further instuctions on how to use the Lightboard in Digipedagogical guidelines (only in Finnish at the moment).
Shooting a video
Videos can be shot on mobile devices, with a video camera or with a camera. These types of videos can be, for example, instruction videos, presentations or short informative shots.

Tips on recording a teaching/learning event
You can record teaching and learning events in different ways.
- You can produce a video of a classroom situation where, for example, a particular method is taught, such as measuring blood pressure in nursing.
- You can record activities in a web session
Before recording, think about the life cycle of the future recording. Can the video be used to support learning in the future, or is it a recording for short-term storage, for example? The Accessibility Directive, which came into force in 2019, requires videos to be subtitled within 14 days of publication.
For more information on how to record a web session, see the digipedagogical instruction Recording and sharing a Zoom session.
Other web sessions such as guidance sessions, meetings and webinars can be recorded using Microsoft Teams. For further instructions, see the digipedagogical guideline Recording Teams meetings and sharing the recording.
