    MOOC course at HAMK

    MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) means an online course that is open to everyone and accessible regardless of time and place. MOOCs are one way to implement open education and enable the accumulation of competence for all those who wish, regardless of basic education. HAMK has defined the purposes and criteria for the MOOC offering.

    In HAMK MOOC course

    • should be designed as part of students’ competence paths and RDI projects.
    • should inspire and interest a wide range of participants.
    • anyone can participate in the course.
    • language of the course can be Finnish or English.
    • must be credited (1-5 credits).
    • must be at the university of applied sciences level (EQF 6 or 7) and contain competence goals.

    Steps in planning and designing a MOOC course

    • Searching for a topic
      • Course topics are brainstormed as part of curriculum work and RDI activities.
    • Approval of the course topic
      • At HAMK, course topic proposals are approved by the Continuous Learning Steering Group.
    • Course design and script
      • MOOC courses will be designed and developed according to the quality module delivery model.
    • Building the course in Moodle 
      • The course will be built on mooc.hamk.fi. Guidance and support will be provided.
    • Implementation plan for the course
      • An implementation plan is drawn up for the course, the details of which are published on the Open University of Applied Sciences’ course offerings.
    • Completed course, its marketing and recommendations to continue studies on the subject
      • The course is featured on HAMK’s marketing communication channels.
    • Evaluation, updating and development of the MOOC course
      • The course teacher will evaluate performance, update and develop the course as agreed

    Building a course on Moodle and support available

    MOOC courses are built on mooc.hamk.fi environment where they are offered to students. The course teachers and developers apply for access to the environment using the ServiceDesk ticket. Students log in to the environment with their chosen email address.

    Support is available for HAMK staff to design and build MOOC courses. The Learn environment has a workspace (fi/en) where you can find more detailed information on development guidelines, support options and agreed practices for MOOCs at HAMK. Request access to the workspace with ServiceDesk ticket.
