Starting up and display capture
Start off by creating your first “scene”.

Continue by choosing a “source” for the scene by pressing the + icon. To record your screen, choose “display capture”.

Name your source with a descriptive name, so you can locate it easily in the future.

choose the display, you want to record if there are many. As a default OBS will usually detect the right resolution for your screen.

Audio capture
When you add an audio source into the software, it’s recommended to add filters to improve the sound quality.

A good filter to add to your audio source is “Noise suppression”. It removes the ambient noise and therefore improves the sound quality. You can add the filters from the + icon located at the bottom-left corner.

Settings
You can find the OBS settings from the bottom-right corner of the main view.

You can change the file of the recording to mp4 from the “recording format”-menu, that’s located in the “output”-menu of the settings. An mp4 file works better with programmes like Adobe Premiere.

Make sure that the “base” and “output” resolutions are the same, from the “video”-menu.

Recording
Start the recording by pressing “start recording” from the bottom-right corner of the main view and stop the recording by pressing “stop recording” from the same place. If you want to have multiple video sources in Teams or Zoom for example, use the “virtual camera”. You can find the virtual camera in Teams or Zoom in the “camera”-menu by the name of “OBS virtual camera” after you’ve turned on the virtual camera by pressing “start virtual camera” at the bottom-right of the OBS main view.

You can find the recorded videos from the “show recordings” button from the “file”-menu that is located at the top-left corner of the main view.

You can also share multiple sources at once and switch to different scenes. For example, you can add a web-camera to the corner of the recording by adding a new source and choosing “video capture device”. You can switch the scenes around by choosing the preferred scene that you want to record and pressing “transition” at the middle of the main view.

Recording file
The files can be converted to a different format by pressing “remux recordings”. You might need to do this if for example you have recorded the video as an mkv-file and you want it to be an mp4-file. First choose the recording file you want to convert and then choose the format you want it to be converted to. Then press the “remux”-button and OBS will convert the file to your preferred format.
